With the 2012 Presidential election on its way, we here in Washington should start arming ourselves for the regular onslaught of topographical metaphors that are sure to surround the candidates... "after an uphill battle through the primaries, their poll numbers will see both peaks and valleys until one contender emerges at the top of the mountain." You may not be running for President, but you can wage your own vertically inclined campaign with this Adventure: an evening of rock climbing and partying at a state-of-the-art climbing facility.

We'll gather at Earth Treks gym in Rockville, Maryland, where our gang of grapplers will be waiting to help us harness up for a night of hanging around. LivingSocial thermoses will be available for $10, but those with their own (climbing) equipment can feel free to bring it along, otherwise all climbing gear will be provided. Once we're harnessed in, we'll receive an hour-long personal lesson in top rope climbing led by trained and certified Adventures staff in our own climbing area. Then, with our new skills under our belts, we'll enjoy private access to the newly renovated 34,000-square-foot facility for 2.5 hours of free climbing (a belayer will be provided), bouldering, and climbing games.

Once we've climbed to our hearts' content, we'll unwind with some light and healthy snacks provided by Robeks. Those who are of age can cash in their harnesses for a wrist bracelet and sip on some beverages as we mingle with our fellow climbers and recap the evening's highs. What better way to start 2012 than with a night of climbing and imbibing that has all the ups and downs of campaign season without the rancor, character assassination, or poorly coifed hair? You literally can't lose.
